My site!

So, I realize it has been quite sometime since I posted anything. For that I apologize. It hasn't been for lack of something to say, but actually quite the opposite. I will do my best to catch up.

I have officially been a Volunteer for 8 weeks as of 2 days ago. I have learned so much in the past two months living in my village. I have finally begun to adjust to the slower pace of life in Black Bush. I think that is why I haven't written anything...I kept thinking "just now".

On a typical morning, I wake up before 6 and lie in bed listening to the beautiful music of the hundreds of birds that arrive outside my window every morning (I think they watch the sunrise as they are always facing east).

The view from my window is beautiful. That's my school! Also, between these two mini-trenches is the future home of Andrea's garden (I will help her with this one and make my own when I move).

At night I can see stars from my bed.

To the east we have a huge field where goats and cows sometimes graze. The white fenced area is the community cricket/ sports field. I haven't seen it used yet, but maybe one day someone will cut the weeds. I planned to keep my horse there, but I am still waiting on a decision from PC- they might pay for one!

I see a lot of random things in my village!

Yes, that is a tractor pulling a house!

Yes, that is a horse and 3 cows crossing/ standing in the road which is under construction. But notice the poles? We have current! Sometimes...more on that later

YUP! A tractor stuck in the field. Luckily Singh and I came to the rescue. We pulled them out of there and went on our merry way...for an hour to Singh's rice field.

I was scared that we would get stuck because of all of the mud, but we didn't! :)

If you didn't guess by now, Black Bush is a rural farming community. Rice and cash crops are grown here and sold all over the coast. The drive in takes between 20 and 50 minutes depending on who is driving/ what type of vehicle I am in/ how many stops we have to make. Because my community is off of the main road it is much quieter and slower paced than the training site. The only thing I asked for during placement was a quiet site. I GOT IT and I LOVE IT! I can go an entire day without being sipped at- unless the construction people come through, we can tell who is 'from the road' and who is from Black Bush. Everyone says "Good Morning", "Good Day", "Good Afternoon", "Good Evening", "Aright" or nods their head when passing each other. Everyone is so friendly here. Already in two months I have been to a wedding, a jandi, a 9 day celebration for a baby, lunch with some of my students and their mom, and dinner SO many times it is hard to keep track.
I will write so much more just now!

Here are some more pictures of my AMAZING site!
